Shu Uemura Cosmetics is the brainchild of Mr. Shu Uemura who began as a Hollywood make-up artist in 1955 .He did the make-up for actress Shirley MacLaine for the film “My Geisha”. In 1960, he developed his first product, the Unmask Cleansing Oil. A few years later, he opened his first make-up school in Tokyo. In 1983, his first open workshop boutique was opened at Omotesando, Tokyo. Shu Uemura cosmetics are developed based on elements from art, nature, and technology. They have different products for different cosmetic needs such as Foundation, Powder, Concealer, and Base

There are two types of Foundations. The Water Perfect Smoothing Water-In Fluid Foundation contains 40% Deepsea Water which protects the skin. It provides a smooth, silken finish. The Foundation Fluid “S” is a liquid foundation which provides a translucent finish to the skin. Powders include the Face Powder Matte that gives a soft focus effect and makes the skin shine-free, besides the Face Powder Sheer that imparts the skin a luminous as well as glowing look. Concealers include the Cover Crayon which is used to conceal and contour, while the Eye Pro Concealer is a color-correcting cream for the area around the eye. The Base category has two products. The Base Control Mix is a liquid used for color correction, brightening, or highlighting the skin tone. The UV Underbase SPF 10 is a base for evening out skin tones and minimizing the appearance of pores.

Other Shu Uemura products include make-up accessories like Cotton, Sponges, Powder Puffs, and Face Paper. The company manufactures lip care products like Moisture Recovering Lip Balm, Lip Fix, and Principie Lip Serum. Products for the eye include the Last Repairer and Moisture Eye Zone Mask.
